The day after I bought the Fuji XPRO 2, I asked myself what the hell did I just do, regretting my purchase the day before?! I was so tempted to return it, but I had to give it a chance. So I had a whole week to customize the functions of the camera & to familiarize myself with the menu items, which is pretty easy to understand compared to the Sony menus!
On 5.28.16 Saturday, I took it out with me on a test sunrise shoot at Makapuu beach. I wan't sure what to expect?! After I uploaded the images to my computer I was so disappointed at the noise in the image, & thought there was no way I could make a print from this file. It didn't really dawn on me that this is a crop sensor & shooting my style of very long exposure of 1-5 minutes would result in very noisy image especially pre sunrise. On the image below, shot with the Fuji XPRO 2, I must say that I've never seem colors like this on my Sony A7S II, it is stunning!
That very same afternoon I went out to Chinatown to do some street photogtraphy, shooting strictly in the black & white acros film simulation, the resulting images was amazing!
The next test would come on Monday, Memorial Day at the Floating lantern ceremony. Packing only the XPRO 2, 23mm f/1.4 (35mm equivalent in the full frame world) & a 56mm (85mm full frame equivalent) f/1.2 & 2 spare batteries. I ventured out into Ala Moana Beach Park & worked my way to shoreline. I think that's the lightest I've every travelled with any kind of camera gear!
After I downloaded the images from the Floating Lantern Ceremony to my computer, I came to the realization that I love my XPRO 2! I can't use it to shoot sunrise, but I can shoot everything else with it! When I normally would step out of the house I would consider taking my Sony A7S II but always would decide against it because it's too big. Now I wouldn't hesitate grabbing my XPRO 2 & walking out the with it to, just to have a camera with me. I just picked up the Fujinon 35mm f/2, which is a weather resistant lens & paired with the XPRO 2 weather resistant body I can comfortably walk around & not have to worry about bad weather & getting my camera wet!
Aloha a hui hou my friends!
