It was exactly 1 year ago today that I made a very unnerving decision to jump ship from using a Nikon system, for almost 7 years, to completely immersing myself into the world of Sony's A7S mirrorless camera. For 10 months I shot with the Sony A7S & upgraded to the A7S II in December. I have been totally satisfied & have absolutely no regrets in the switch!
There are many Pros & Cons about both mirrorless & the DSLR camps, the biggest change in my type of shooting was that after my youngest daughter graduated from high school, I no longer shoot sports. In my option the weakest point in Sony's A7 series of cameras is the lack of a fast auto focusing system, with that said I no longer shoot sports so that part really doesn't affect my type of shooting anymore. Another thing that I would like to see implemented in the third series of A7's is a dual Sd card slot.
My reasoning why I chose the A7S II over the A7 & A7R is that in about 75% of my photography revolves around very low light shooting. When I did my upgrade from the A7S to A7S II, I did think about moving to the A7R II, but ultimately chose to stay with the S series. I'll wait till the 3rd gen of the A7R to come out to see what they have to offer. I would love to invest into a 2nd body, perhaps the A7R III...maybe?! It would be very nice to have all that extra pixels to work with!!!
